Electricity utilities are increasingly reporting that they are using energy storage batteries to move electricity from periods of low prices to periods of high prices, a strategy known as arbitrage, according to new information published by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

New rules from the Environmental Protection Agency could accelerate the retirement of existing coal-fired generating facilities and limit new baseload natural gas facilities, hampering the public power sector's ability to meet growing electricity demand, Fitch Rating said recently.
