Santee Cooper is partnering with The Sustainability Institute to give income-eligible customers free energy-efficient upgrades and help all customers become more energy efficient, Santee Cooper said on Oct. 4.
The Sustainability Institute’s Energy Assistance Program offers free energy-efficiency workshops open to all Santee Cooper customers. Those who fall in a particular income threshold may qualify for free energy-efficiency weatherization services. According to the Institute, families who receive weatherization services can see their annual energy bills reduced by up to 30%.
“I'm excited to offer Santee Cooper customers access to our Energy Assistance Program,” said Mitch Houck, Building Performance and Construction Manager for The Sustainability Institute. “This initiative provides free weatherization upgrades, such as insulation, air sealing, and HVAC improvements, helping households reduce energy consumption and lower their utility bills. Our goal is to help everyone gain access to a safe, healthy and energy-efficient home.”
“This program will mean long-term energy savings for customers through information shared at the workshops, and critically needed benefits for customers who are eligible for the free weatherization services,” said Jimmy Staton, Santee Cooper President and CEO. “We’re pleased to partner with such an outstanding organization as The Sustainability Institute in this effort.”
