Chattanooga, Tenn., public power utility EPB has launched the nation’s first community-wide 25 gigabits per second internet service to be available to all residential and commercial customers over a 100% fiber optic network with symmetrical upload and download speeds, it said on Aug. 24.
The city council of Dickson, Tenn., on Aug. 15 unanimously approved a resolution to authorize the issuance of up to $50 million in Electric System Revenue Bonds to finance public power utility Dickson Electric System’s (DES) broadband project.

While it is gratified that a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NOPR) includes an effort to promote joint transmission ownership arrangements, the American Public Power Association (APPA) wants FERC to adopt a more narrowly tailored conditional right of first refusal (ROFR) focused on promoting joint ownership opportunities for public power utilities and other load-serving entities (LSEs).
