Public power entities in Massachusetts are voicing support for an initiative unveiled on Oct. 2 in Massachusetts under which the state is teaming up with University of Massachusetts Lowell to develop “Advanced Nuclear and Fusion Energy Roadmaps” to accelerate the state’s leadership in advanced nuclear and fusion energy technologies.
Reliability
A project involving the American Public Power Association, a group of APPA members and the Argonne National Laboratory focused on wildfire risk mitigation has resulted in new resources that can be utilized by the public power community.

NextEra Energy Transmission Southwest on Oct. 2 announced the successful energization of the Wolf Creek-Blackberry 345-kilovolt transmission line, completing the 92-mile project within budget and five months ahead of the required in-service date.

The Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2015 (CISA 2015) expired at 12:01 a.m. on the morning of October 1. APPA strongly supported the enactment of CISA 2015 and supports a clean, long-term reauthorization of CISA 2015.

The City of Pasadena, California, achieved another significant milestone in its goal to provide 100% carbon free electricity by the end of 2030, as a newly upgraded wind energy facility, Wind Resource II, officially began delivering clean power to the City this summer.
