The Omaha Public Power District recently celebrated the completion of its Standing Bear Lake Station with a ribbon-cutting event.

This marks the second new power plant launched this year to help serve growing customer needs.

Standing Bear Lake Station includes nine reciprocating internal combustion units, each producing 18 megawatts of energy.

The units run on natural gas, with fuel oil as a backup, and are quick-start engines, firing up in less than 30 seconds.

“Their flexibility diversifies the tools we use to operate the grid and support reliability for our communities,” OPPD said.
