The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded Gainesville Regional Utilities a $47.5 million grant to bolster electric grid resilience, increase funding to community-based programs and support workforce development.
Kairos Power and Google have signed a Master Plant Development Agreement, creating a path to deploy a U.S. fleet of advanced nuclear power projects totaling 500 megawatts by 2035, the companies said on Oct. 14.
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Grid Deployment Office on Oct. 9 announced 39 hydropower facilities throughout the country will receive more than $12 million in incentive payments for electricity generated and sold in calendar year 2023. Public power utilities are included among the recipients of the payments.
The PJM Interconnection and its members have adequate resources to serve the forecasted demand for electricity this winter under expected conditions, although reserve margins continue to shrink with continued generator retirements and increasing demand, the grid operator said on Oct. 14.
GM Energy recently launched the GM Energy PowerBank, a stationary storage product that gives EV owners the power to store and transfer energy from the grid, and the option of integrating with solar power equipment.
As of 9 a.m. Sunday morning, public power utilities have restored power to more than 95 percent of customers in Florida who experienced outages from Hurricane Milton, the Florida Municipal Electric Association reported on Oct. 13.
