The New York Independent System Operator and the ISO New England on Feb. 28 submitted filings at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to implement potential import duties for Canadian imports of electricity.

At Platte River Power Authority’s first board meeting of 2025, the board of directors elected Jeni Arndt, mayor of Fort Collins, to serve as the utility’s next board chair. The board also named Gary Hall, mayor of Estes Park, as vice chair. Their appointments took effect immediately following the utility’s board meeting Feb. 27.

On February 3, 2025, the Energy Information Administration opened the portal for reporting Form EIA-112 Residential Utility Disconnections Survey. Submissions are due March 28, 2025.

The Florida Municipal Electric Association on March 1 held its annual Florida Lineman Competition, which brings electric lineworkers from all over the state and outside of Florida together to demonstrate their skill and knowledge in the craft of line work. FMEA also recognized excellence in Florida public power at an awards banquet where the winners of the FMEA Safety Awards were announced.

To foster a deeper understanding of customers facing financial challenges, employees of Florida public power utility JEA recently participated in a simulation exercise designed to highlight the realities of living with limited financial resources.
