Arizona public power utility Salt River Project has issued a request for information seeking information from developers of non-inverter based energy storage technologies.
SRP will use this RFI to determine if it will issue a subsequent request for proposals for non-lithium-ion storage resources, targeting potential project online dates between 2027 and 2028.
A key finding from SRP’s recent Integrated System Plan process determined SRP will need to double or triple power resource capacity from a wide range of technologies in the next decade to continue reliably serving SRP’s customer base.
Through the RFI process, SRP aims to better understand the performance and costs associated with emerging non-inverter based long duration energy storage technologies.
“This will support SRP’s ongoing planning efforts to prepare for the Valley’s rapidly evolving power system needs while prioritizing affordability, reliability, sustainability and customer focus,” it said.
Respondents to the RFI can view the details here: srp.net/rfi.
SRP will host a web conference for respondents on October 19 and is requesting final responses by December 22, 2023.
