The City of Glendale, California, recently announced the appointment of Scott Mellon as the new General Manager of Glendale Water and Power.

Mellon joined GWP in September 2022 as the Assistant General Manager of GWP’s Power Management section. In this role, he oversaw utility-scale energy projects, managed renewable energy contract negotiations, and led efforts to support grid stability through advanced technologies.

Prior to his tenure in Glendale, he spent over 20 years at Burbank Water and Power, where he served as Principal Electrical Engineer and Project Manager, most recently leading the implementation of an Advanced Distribution Management System.

"Scott brings an exceptional combination of technical knowledge, leadership, and a strong commitment to our city," said Glendale City Manager Roubik Golanian. "His experience and innovative mindset will guide GWP through the evolving challenges of utility management, and I am confident that he will continue to serve the Glendale community with integrity and dedication."

Mellon's early career in aerospace engineering "helped shape his deep understanding of electrical subsystems and control systems—insight that has proven invaluable in today’s rapidly transforming energy landscape. His appointment comes at a pivotal time as the City of Glendale advances its goals for carbon neutrality and a more resilient energy future," the city said in a news release.

"Scott Mellon is a tremendous asset to our city," said Glendale Mayor Ara Najarian. "His leadership and technical background are exactly what we need as we modernize our utility services. On behalf of the City Council and the entire Glendale community, I congratulate him on this well-deserved appointment and look forward to the positive impact he will make."

Mellon assumes the permanent role following his service as Acting General Manager, "where he has already demonstrated a strong ability to lead with vision and purpose," the city noted.
