Snohomish County PUD Commissioner Sid Logan, Marysville Mayor Jon Nehring, and PUD General Manager John Haarlow were recently joined by elected officials and community members for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Jennings Park Substation in Marysville, Washington State.
In addition to celebrating the project milestone, attendees had the opportunity to tour the Jennings Park Substation and learn about future infrastructure investments coming to Marysville.
These include a new 115-kilovolt transmission line, scheduled to be completed in 2027, and the SnoSMART project, an infrastructure and software project deploying hundreds of wireless-connected smart grid devices to the PUD’s distribution grid that has received a $30 million Department of Energy GRIP funding grant.
“The Jennings Park Substation will increase capacity in Marysville and is one project in a series of major infrastructure upgrades coming to Marysville,” said PUD Haarlow. “These improvements will help increase reliability, accommodate future growth, and mitigate wildfire risk in the community.”
The Jennings Park Substation ribbon-cutting was the first event of its kind in decades, and perhaps the only opportunity PUD customers have ever had to tour a substation.
The event successfully celebrated the achievements of PUD employees across multiple departments, while helping inform community members and local and federal officials about future infrastructure investments in the area, the PUD said.
