Missouri River Energy Services along with demolition contractor Veit & Company this month began the demolition of the closed Hubbard Feed Mill located next to the existing power plant in Watertown, South Dakota.

“This project is part of Missouri River’s ongoing commitment to providing reliable, low-cost energy for the residents and businesses of Watertown, its members and the region,” MRES noted.

MRES is a not-for-profit joint-action agency that provides wholesale electricity and energy-related services to 61 member municipalities in Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Crews will start securing the site, which is expected to take approximately 30 days. Once the site is secured, Veit will begin dismantling the structure in early August.

“Removing the old Hubbard mill will help us prepare for future energy needs,” said Terry Wolf, vice president and chief operating officer at MRES. “Clearing this site creates the potential for expansion or refiring of our existing power plant, which is critical to maintaining the reliable and affordable energy our customers expect.”

MRES and Veit are working closely with the City of Watertown to ensure all necessary permits are secured and that the work complies fully with local codes and regulations.

The project is expected to be completed by Oct. 1, 2025.
