The Missouri Public Utility Alliance announced the appointment of Steven Stodden as its new President and Chief Executive Officer.
Stodden will succeed John Twitty, who has led MPUA with distinction for five years, MPUA said on Jan. 23.
Stodden joined the MPUA team in October 2023 as the Director – Electric Transmission & Distribution and later was promoted to Chief Energy Officer in June 2024.
While at MPUA, Stodden has led initiatives that are critical to the association’s growth and resilience. This includes developing the Integrated Resource Plan for the Missouri Electric Commission’s power pools, as well as overseeing the $180 million Marshall Energy Center project.
“My focus has consistently been on creating value for MPUA members through cost-effective, reliable power solutions while also building new partnerships and managing risks,” said Stodden. “I’m honored to continue my commitment to the philosophy at MPUA, ensuring that our talented staff are supported and developed as we pursue new goals together.”
Stodden brings a wealth of experience and leadership to MPUA, having previously served a 26-year tenure at City of Utilities Springfield, culminating as Vice President – Chief Natural Gas / Water Operations Officer.
During that time, he led several operating areas including electric supply, power system control, power marketing, system planning, natural gas and water operations, fleet, facilities, and transit. Stodden expanded the renewable energy portfolio while reducing costs and realigned the workforce to meet future demands.
“After a thorough and thoughtful search process, we are excited to have Steve step into the role of President and CEO,” said Greg Beavers, MPUA Board Chair. “He has shown proven leadership and deep industry expertise, which will be invaluable to our organization as we continue to deliver exceptional value and drive progress for the communities we serve.”
MPUA is a partnership of the Missouri Electric Commission, the Missouri Gas Commission, the Missouri Association of Municipal Utilities, and the MPUA Resource Services Corporation.
Under Stodden’s leadership, MPUA will continue its mission of delivering industry-leading solutions, robust advocacy, and collaboration to advance local excellence, local control, and local benefit.
