The Midcontinent ISO announced the second cycle of projects to be evaluated under its Expedited Resource Addition Study (ERAS) process, “reinforcing its commitment to accelerating the addition of critical generation resources across the region,” it said on Dec. 1.

The second cycle includes 15 projects totaling approximately 6,100 MW of proposed new capacity. These projects span a range of fuel sources -- including solar, wind, natural gas, and battery storage and are located across MISO’s North, Central and South regions.

The in-service dates range from December 1, 2027 to August 6, 2028.

“Cycle 2 builds on the momentum of Cycle 1 and reflects the continued demand for timely, reliable interconnection solutions,” said Aubrey Johnson, MISO’s Vice President, System Planning. “These projects are essential to meeting near-term reliability needs and ensuring new resource additions are online to meet load growth.”

To date, 51 projects representing nearly 30,000 MW of proposed new capacity have been accepted or are pending validation into ERAS.

Cycle 1 had 10 projects, representing approximately 5,300 MW of capacity. Three Cycle 1 projects already have executed generator interconnection agreements and the other seven will be completed in December. MISO evaluates each ERAS project for eligibility and completeness, and after FERC’s recent approval MISO will study up to 15 projects per quarter. There is a program cap of 68 projects before ERAS sunsets on August 31, 2027.

“ERAS is one of several tools we’re using to meet the evolving needs of our members and the communities they serve,” added Johnson. “MISO remains focused on reducing timelines in our generator interconnection queue through the recently approved queue cap and through improved software automation.”
