The Lower Colorado River Authority recently delivered a mobile substation transformer to temporarily power Hunt area customers of Texas public power utility Kerrville Public Utility Board in the wake of catastrophic flooding that devastated the Hill Country region earlier this month.
“THANK YOU, LCRA, for delivering a mobile substation transformer to temporarily power our Hunt area customers,” KPUB said in a LinkedIn post.
“After the Hunt Substation experienced unprecedented flooding, with 6 to 8 feet of water inside the facility, we quickly rerouted customers to the Ingram Substation to meet immediate power needs,” KPUB noted in the LinkedIn post. “While that provided a temporary power option, it was never designed for long-term support.”
Now, with the arrival of the massive mobile unit -- 11 axles, 42 wheels, and 171,000 pounds of copper and steel -- “we can deliver safe, reliable, and uninterrupted power directly to Hunt-area customers while permanent repairs are made over the coming months,” KPUB said.
The Lower Colorado River Authority is the primary wholesale provider of electricity in Central Texas and manages the lower Colorado River and six Highland Lakes.
