The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities recently welcomed U.S. Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kansas) and members of his team to BPU for a tour of the Kansas public power utility’s Nearman Creek Power Station and a discussion about the critical services that public power utilities provide to BPU’s customers and community.
“At BPU, we believe it is important for elected officials to have a firsthand understanding of the infrastructure, operations, and workforce that keep the lights on and water flowing every day,” wrote Jeremy Ash, General Manager of BPU in a LinkedIn post.
“These conversations provide an opportunity to share the challenges and opportunities facing public utilities and to highlight the investments needed to ensure reliable service in the future,” Ash said.
“We appreciate Senator Marshall taking the time to visit with our team and learn more about the important work BPU employees are doing. We welcome the opportunity to engage with leaders at all levels of government as we work together to serve the people of Wyandotte County and support our community's growth,” Ash wrote.
The Nearman generation site’s footprint generates thermal (coal and natural gas) and solar. BPU staff is working to secure battery storage and additional solar to the property, further diversifying the site’s generation portfolio, noted Amber Oetting, BPU’s Director of Communications, Legislative Affairs and Marketing.
