Florida public power utility has JEA received recognition from national and state organizations for its vegetation management program and its work balancing the delivery of reliable electricity with the preservation of urban forests throughout JEA’s 905 square miles of service territory.
The Arbor Day Foundation named JEA a 2026 Tree Line USA recipient, marking the 14th consecutive year JEA has received the award. The nonprofit organization recognizes public and private utilities that maintain a high standard of care when planting or maintaining trees. JEA achieved the Tree Line USA recognition by meeting five program standards: quality tree care, annual worker training, tree planting, public education and formal tree-based energy conservation.
JEA also received the Florida Urban Forestry Council’s 2025 FUFC Outstanding Utility award. The Urban Forestry Impact Awards highlight the achievements of organizations and individuals committed to managing, promoting, educating and advocating for vibrant urban forests in their communities.
“Our vegetation management team plays a vital role in delivering safe, reliable power while preserving the tree canopy that defines Jacksonville’s neighborhoods. This recognition reflects a proactive approach to balancing system reliability with environmental stewardship,” JEA Managing Director and CEO Vickie Cavey said.
The proper maintenance of trees can increase the reliability of utility services during storms, as properly maintained trees result in fewer downed lines. Also, when the right trees are planted in the right places, they shade homes and businesses and help reduce energy demand during peak service hours, helping customers lower energy costs.
