Indiana public power utility Crawfordsville Electric Light & Power recently provided an update on its new Memorial Drive Substation.
“This project represents a major step forward for our system and will help strengthen reliability in the Northern part of our territory. Work will continue over the next several years as we move toward its planned completion in December of 2027,” wrote CEL&P General Manager Allison Huenemann in the utility’s April newsletter.
“We are adding the substation due to added load and to take load off of two older substations,” James Rodewald, Engineering Director for the utility, told Public Power Current.
“We have experienced longer than expected lead times on some equipment which could be supply chain related,” he noted.
As load increases more substations could be needed, Rodewald said.
“Along with the new substation, we have several other improvement projects in progress and planned throughout our system,” Huenemann noted in the newsletter. “From upgrading equipment and infrastructure to improving our facilities and fleet, these investments help our crews work safely and efficiently while keeping power flowing to our customers.”
