The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services (HHS), Education, and Related Agencies recently held a markup of Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Labor, HHS, Education, and Related Agencies appropriations legislation.
The subcommittee did not consider any amendments and reported the measure favorably to the full committee by a party-line vote of 11-7.
The legislation would increase funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) by $10 million from FY 2025 levels, for a total appropriation of $4.035 billion. Text of the legislation may be viewed here and the section on LIHEAP may be viewed here.
On July 31, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved the FY 2026 Departments of Labor, HHS, and Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act (S. 2587), which would increase funding for LIHEAP by $20 million from FY 2025 levels, for a total appropriation of $4.045 billion; the bill is awaiting consideration by the full Senate.
