Glenn Gavit has been named the director of the City of College Station’s electric utility, City Manager Bryan Woods said Friday. Gavit has served as interim director since Timothy Crabb retired in May.

Gavit joined College Station Utilities as the electric substation and metering superintendent in 2019 and was elevated to assistant director in 2020. He was promoted to deputy director in 2024.

“Glenn has been an incredible addition to CSU and the City’s management team,” Woods said. “We’re fortunate to have someone in our organization with his knowledge, skills, and drive. I’m excited to see what he’ll do in this new leadership role as CSU’s electric director.”

As deputy director, Gavit identified ways to save $1 million in recurring expenses for CSU and an additional $600,000 in savings for another City department.

He also managed the construction of substations valued at $13 million and established new purchase power agreements, securing CSU’s financial viability and affordable power for customers.  As assistant director, Gavit oversaw the installation of 42,000 advanced electric meters in 2021.

CSU is comprised of 94 employees and recently earned the American Public Power Association’s Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) designation and the Safety Award of Excellence at the Diamond Level, the organization’s highest classification.

Before coming to College Station, Gavit was an electrical engineer and supervisor with Shermco Industries in Dallas, where he designed, installed, and commissioned electrical systems across the nation, focusing on plants and major industrial environments.

“I’m deeply honored to step into the role of director and am committed to the continued improvement of our system and supporting the growth of our city as it evolves,” Gavit said. “We will maintain our steadfast commitment to being a safe, reliable public power entity focused on the needs of our citizen customers.
“I’m grateful to my predecessor, Timothy Crabb, whose mentorship laid a strong foundation for me to carry forward the mission and values of our utility. The culture we have built – grounded in family, community, and accountability – remains a cornerstone of our success,” he added.

“I also appreciate the electric utility staff and the many people who have reached out with encouragement during the transition. It is my privilege to serve with such a dedicated team, and I look forward to what we will accomplish together in the years ahead.”
