Four Republican senators have joined in an April 9 letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) in support of the energy credit provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.

“While we support fiscal responsibility and prudent efforts to streamline the tax code, we caution against the full-scale repeal of current credits, which could lead to significant disruptions for the American people and weaken our position as a global energy leader,” the senators wrote.

Senators signing the letter were: Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), John Curtis (R-UT), Jerry Moran (R-KS), and Thom Tillis (R-NC).

“As discussions on tax policy continue, we stand ready to work with you to identify waste, fraud, abuse, and necessary reforms,” they wrote. “We believe the final reconciliation bill can support smart policies that enable private sector investment in domestic energy to help meet future U.S. energy needs and strengthen the global competitiveness of American companies.”

The letter follows a similar one from 21 House Republicans to Ways & Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO).
In their letter, the House Republicans asked Chairman Jason Smith to keep in mind energy affordability and energy dominance when congress considers changes to energy tax credits.

Led by Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) the group asked that “any changes to the tax code be conducted in a targeted and pragmatic fashion that promotes [House Republican] conference priorities without undoing future private sector investments.”
