Texas public power utility CPS Energy has completed preparedness activities as part of requirements for the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, the utility said on May 30.

CPS Energy transmission systems and generation units are fully compliant with all required readiness activities.

The attestation is part of the utility’s efforts to ensure reliable and resilient energy service during the 2025 summer season. As part of overall readiness efforts, CPS Energy’s senior leadership presented to its Board of Trustees on May 19, 2025.

CPS Energy conducted planned maintenance on generation units over the course of three months.
This includes hurricane preparedness efforts for plants in Corpus Christi and Laredo. The utility has recently added an additional 159 megawatts of wind power, bringing its total generation mix to 9,500 MW to serve customers. This is more energy to cover the demand record in August 2023.

CPS Energy has taken several steps to support reliable power plant and transmission operations during the summer. These efforts include and are not limited to the following:
•    Power plant inspections
•    Wildfire preparation
•    Monitoring power flows to mitigate possible transmission congestion.
•    Reviewing summer operating procedures, including emergency operations

“Our plants have been inspected, and our teams continue to focus on working safe as we head into the summer,” said CPS Energy CEO & President Rudy Garza. “CPS Energy will continue to lean on every megawatt we have to provide service to our community, and I thank our CPS Energy employees for their One Team approach to ensuring we are prepared to weather another summer together.”

The utility will continue to use Cam the Chameleon to remind customers how to lower energy usage and save on bills during the summer, when energy consumption can be highest.
