Massachusetts public power utility Concord Municipal Light Plant has added three new Chevy Equinox Electric Vehicles to its fleet, replacing one older vehicle and expanding the total number of vehicles in service.
According to Laura Scott, Assistant Director of Power Supply and Energy Management, the current fleet now includes: 4 electric vehicles, 3 gasoline hybrids, 11 gasoline-powered vehicles, & 18 diesel-powered vehicles (including off-road and trailered equipment).
This transition supports Concord’s commitment to carbon reduction and sustainability. By electrifying its fleet, CMLP expects to lower operating and maintenance costs while significantly reducing its environmental footprint.
The town’s Sustainable Fleet Policy and Climate Action & Resilience Plan both call for continued fleet electrification as part of broader climate goals.
The purchase of these EVs was supported by the Commercial Clean Vehicle Credit and the Commonwealth’s MOR-EV rebate program, available to residents and businesses in Massachusetts.
These incentives help accelerate the timeline for achieving cost savings, making the switch to EVs even more financially sustainable. The EVs also save CMLP time and money by requiring less maintenance and repairs.
Jay Simeone, the Senior Master Mechanic at CMLP says, “There’s less maintenance on the EVs, they require no oil changes, cooling systems, fan belts or driven accessories. Just tires, checking brakes, washer fluid & annual inspection.”
Ann Breitenwischer, CMLP’s Meter Supervisor for nearly 38 years, has been driving one of the new Chevy Equinox EVs. “The drive is much better and smoother, don’t have to fill up, just remember to plug it in to charge,” she shared.
Concord Municipal Light Plant wants to help residents and businesses electrify too. CMLP offers vehicle rebates, charging incentives, and tools through the Concord Drives Electric program.
Concord Drives Electric’s EV Specialists offer no-cost advice to customers to assist in reducing their carbon footprints and saving money.
Energy New England is the Program Administrator for Concord Drives Electric.
ENE, owned in part by CMLP, is the largest wholesale risk management and energy trading organization serving the needs of municipal utilities in New England.

With 110 miles of streets in the service territory, CMLP serves approximately 8,200 meters providing 170,000 Megawatt Hours (MWh) to 6898 residential, 1244 commercial, and 69 municipal customers.
