Colin Selby has been named Deputy General Manager of Energy Resources at California public power utility Merced Irrigation District.
“Energy Resources is a vital component of our operations at MID, and we are excited to welcome Mr. Selby with his knowledge and expertise to oversee this crucial department,” said MID General Manager John Sweigard.
Selby will be responsible for overseeing Energy Resources engineering, construction, maintenance, electric operations, energy efficiency, public programs, and transmission and distribution planning. He will also oversee energy regulatory issues including compliance and renewal of licenses, permits and energy contracts.
“I am excited to join the MID team to help our region navigate our state’s ongoing energy challenges and needs,” he said.
Prior to joining MID, Selby had a lengthy career at neighboring Turlock Irrigation District, most recently serving as its Manager of the Resources Planning Department.
His extensive experience includes leading complex contract negotiations, managing compliance with state and federal energy regulations, and overseeing trade strategies that saved TID ratepayers millions of dollars. To date, he has directed the development of TID’s 2045 Energy Roadmap to address California’s clean energy mandates and has guided TID through numerous operational challenges and adverse energy market events.
MID is a public power provider with nearly 14,000 customers, including local businesses, schools, and government facilities. The vast majority of MID electric customers are residential.
The district operates a 34-mile transmission loop serving all of its customers in eastern Merced County, including those in the cities of Livingston, Atwater and Merced as well as Castle Airport and Aviation Development Center.
