The California Municipal Utilities Association on May 4 applauded the work of the California Independent System Operator, PacifiCorp, and the entire market community in launching the Extended Day-Ahead Market (EDAM).
"CMUA has been a strong supporter of the Western market’s incremental growth, having served on the Transitional and Governance Review committees to advance independent governance of Western markets," it noted.
CMUA is also a staunch supporter of the Western Pathways Initiative, with several of our members formally serving on the Launch Committee that proposed formation of the Regional Organization for Western Energy and that led to the passage of Assembly Bill 825. "The policy and operational progress made by the teams focused on EDAM is inspiring," it said.
Several CMUA members are participants in the Western Energy Imbalance Market, and all CMUA member Balancing Authority Areas (BAAs) are committed to joining EDAM, commencing with the Balancing Authority of Northern California, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, and Turlock Irrigation District scheduled to join EDAM in 2027. Imperial Irrigation District is slated to join in 2028. This will mark the first time that all of California’s major BAAs are united in one market.
"CMUA members look forward to the economic and environmental benefits that a broader Western market will bring for their customers, and for the continued growth and expansion of EDAM."
