Work recently started on a new substation in the public power community of Monett, Missouri.
In March, the City of Monett noted that it had received a $1.4 million dollar transformer for the new city-owned substation.
The total estimated cost of the substation will be approximately $4 million, including components, engineering, and construction.
Local news reports noted that the project is being financed through a low-interest loan from the Missouri Public Utility Alliance.
“A new substation in town will increase the city’s power capacity, which can become stressed, particularly during the hot summer months. A new substation will also create redundancy, ensuring that if another city substation is damaged or taken offline for maintenance, capacity can be transferred and divided between the remaining substations without widespread outages,” the city noted.
The estimated completion date for the project is early 2027.
