Recovery efforts following Super Typhoon Bavi remain ongoing across Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).

Power restoration efforts are progressing in Saipan, Tinian, and Guam. However, the recovery process for Rota is expected to be lengthy given the damage the island sustained.

APPA remains in contact with the Guam Power Authority (GPA) and the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation (CUC) to help assess whether mutual aid will be needed to support ongoing restoration efforts.

Northern Mariana Islands

Rota suffered the most extensive damage in the region after the eye of Bavi passed directly over the island with sustained winds near 180 mph.

Rota’s mayor has stated restoration in some areas could take up to three months due to the impacts from the storm. Preliminary reports from the mayor indicate that many, possibly all, of Rota’s wooden distribution poles were damaged or destroyed, and numerous power lines remain down across the island.

As of July 7, CUC reported that utility infrastructure on the island was still being assessed.
Power has been restored to portions of Tinian and Saipan, and CUC expects restoration efforts on those islands to progress more quickly as they sustained less damage than Rota.

Guam

Guam sustained widespread damage from fallen trees, downed power lines, and flooding.

However, the Guam Power Authority is continuing to make progress with its island-wide restoration efforts. All of their substations have been energized, and 39 out of 67 distribution circuits have been partially energized.
