During a recent Board of Commissioners meeting, the Clallam County PUD Board received a presentation on broadband expansion efforts.
The presentation was given by Mike Henson, Chief Operating Officer of Northwest Open Access Network (NoaNet).
Clallam County PUD’s fiber optic broadband infrastructure supports critical district operations and provides excess network capacity to local Internet Service Providers (ISPs), the PUD noted.
NoaNet, a nonprofit public broadband network serving Washington State and the Pacific Northwest through open-access broadband services, has partnered with Clallam PUD in providing services over its infrastructure.
Henson presented an update on NoaNet’s participation in Washington State’s Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program. The BEAD Program is focused on expanding reliable, affordable high-speed internet access to underserved and unserved communities.
NoaNet has received 26 preliminary grant awards statewide, including seven projects located within Clallam County. These projects are expected to enhance broadband access and connectivity throughout the region.
"Clallam County PUD is proud to support efforts that expand broadband infrastructure and improve access to underserved communities across Clallam County," it said.
