Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS) has awarded $2,500 scholarships to students who reside in UAMPS member cities participating in a UAMPS solar project.

The project is comprised of two 40 MW solar projects -- the Steel Solar 1A and 1B Projects.

Scholarships are funded through a provision in the related Power Purchase Agreements.

Students were judged on a written essay that demonstrated how their field of study will promote clean, renewable energy.

The scholarship program reflects UAMPS' goal to foster a pipeline of skilled professionals who are well-prepared to contribute to the energy industry’s growth and long-term sustainability and ensure a capable workforce for years to come, UAMPS noted.

UAMPS member entities helped promote the opportunity by sharing flyers, notifying schools, and announcing the scholarship at city council meetings.

UAMPS is a full-service interlocal agency that provides comprehensive wholesale electric energy services on a non-profit basis to community-owned power systems throughout the Intermountain West.

The UAMPS membership represents 50 members from Utah, Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, and Wyoming.
