Lincoln Electric System is holding a meeting on May 5 for customers and community members to learn more about the results of its Value of Solar study and how customer-owned solar energy benefits the electric system.
LES staff will present an overview of the study, explain how the value of customer-generated solar energy is evaluated and answer questions from attendees.
The Value of Solar study examines the financial benefits that customer-owned distributed solar provides to LES and its customers. The analysis helps to identify a fair, cost-based level of solar compensation that ensures costs are not shifted to customers who do not have solar, the Nebraska public power utility said.
During the meeting, LES will discuss how the study evaluated the impact of additional customer-owned solar on the electric system over the long term, including how solar generation can reduce energy purchases during daylight hours and provide other system benefits.
The findings also help inform LES’ approach to solar compensation and future rate design.
