The Imperial Irrigation District recently announced the official launch of its new EnergyFlex program, a voluntary initiative designed to provide customer incentives during periods of high demand in order to support grid reliability.

Customers can enroll in the EnergyFlex program and receive up to a $25 enrollment incentive while benefiting from opportunities to reduce energy use during peak periods, known as FlexHours, when demand on the system is highest.

EnergyFlex gives customers the option to participate through two pathways. Customers with smart thermostats can enroll in the program’s automatic demand response feature, where small, temporary adjustments are made during peak periods. Those without smart thermostats can still participate through a behavioral demand response option, receiving notifications and guidance on when to reduce energy use.

Participants will receive advance notifications before FlexHours events, ensuring transparency and allowing customers to always remain in control of their comfort settings, the California public power utility noted.

"By shifting energy use during peak periods, customers not only benefit from potential savings but also help reduce strain on the electric system and limit exposure to purchased power costs," it said.

EnergyFlex is part of IID’s broader effort to provide customers with practical tools to manage energy use, improve system flexibility, and maintain reliable service across its service area.

To ensure broad participation, the program includes Spanish-language support and targeted outreach to disadvantaged communities, helping make energy-saving opportunities accessible to all customers.
