President Trump on Oct. 24 named Laura Swett Chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

I look forward to working with my colleagues and FERC’s excellent staff to continue the Commission’s crucial mission of ensuring reliable and affordable energy for all consumers,” Swett said.
Swett was nominated by President Trump on June 2, 2025, and confirmed by the Senate on October 7, 2025, to serve on the Commission for a term expiring on June 30, 2030.
Swett has litigated FERC law for the past 15 years, which has included representation of generating utilities, transmission owners, and natural gas and liquids pipelines, most recently at Vinson & Elkins.
Additionally, she previously served at FERC, advising a former Chairman and Commissioner, and as a lead attorney in FERC’s Office of Enforcement.
Chairman Swett will take over the helm at FERC from David Rosner, who had been serving on an interim basis.
David LaCerte, who was confirmed by the Senate as a FERC commissioner at the same time as Swett, is expected to be sworn in the week of Oct. 27, at which time FERC will have a full complement of five sitting commissioners—three Republicans and two Democrats.
