Electric Cities of Georgia hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for its new ECG Training Institute location on August 27 in the Indian Springs Business Park in Forsyth, Georgia.
"This is a milestone achievement for ECG, reflecting its commitment to workforce development, innovation, and the future of public power," it noted.
The 12,000-square-foot facility will consolidate ECG’s current training sites in Newnan and Adel, enhancing efficiency and capacity to address the evolving needs of the utility industry.
The institute will offer specialized training for Electrical Lineworkers, from entry-level apprenticeships to advanced certifications, alongside programs for interpersonal and leadership development for all utility professionals.
Jason Shaw, Chairman, Georgia Public Service Commission, remarked, “Georgia is growing the way it is because we have the knowledge, the capacity, the ability, and the wherewithal to meet the demands ahead. This facility will play a crucial role in that continued growth. Thank you all for what you do.”
This vision underscores the importance of the ECG Training Institute in preparing Georgia’s workforce for the opportunities and challenges ahead, as energy technologies advance and the utility sector evolves, ECG said.
"With the current scarcity of skilled workers in the utility sector, the ECG Training Institute represents a proactive investment in developing the next generation of utility professionals," ECG noted.
Through comprehensive programs and hands-on experience, the institute aims to foster a workforce equipped to meet today’s demands and adapt to future challenges. In addition, the Institute is expected to drive economic growth in Forsyth by increasing local activity and creating a positive ripple effect throughout the community.
Forsyth City Manager and current ECG Board Member, Craig Mims, commented on the local economic impact, noting, “With trainees and instructors traveling from all corners of Georgia and beyond, we anticipate a steady flow of activity in our hotels, restaurants, and retail establishments. This is more than just an investment in professional development, it’s a remarkable opportunity for Forsyth to partner with ECG’s forward-thinking vision, increase our local economy and foster new connections.”
