CNBC recently released a list of what it says are the 10 states in the U.S. with grids that are best positioned to power the artificial intelligence data center boom.
CNBC said it considers each state’s electrical grid in its annual competitiveness study, America’s Top States for Business.
Under the study’s methodology, ”we use U.S. Department of Energy data on grid reliability — the duration of power outages per year — as well as the retail price of electricity,” wrote Scott Cohn, Special Correspondent for CNBC, in a July 15 post.
“With a wealth of inexpensive, reliable electricity, these states are the best equipped to power the AI revolution, and everything else,” Cohn notes.
The 10 states are:
• Washington State
• New Mexico
• Montana
• North Dakota
• Idaho
• South Dakota
• Utah
• Wyoming
• Iowa
• Nebraska
In his post, Cohn provides additional details on each state’s largest electric utility, power outages statewide (annual), average retail price of electricity (all sectors) and power from renewable sources.
