The House on May 13 passed the Fire Safe Electrical Corridors Act of 2025 by unanimous consent.
APPA supports the legislation, which would allow the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management to permit the removal of hazard trees and vegetation on electric transmission corridors on public lands without requiring a corresponding timber sale.
The bill, H.R. 2492, now moves to the Senate for consideration.
A Senate version of the bill (S. 349) was introduced in January, focusing solely on the Forest Service. The Senate Committee on Agriculture has not yet considered its version of the bill.
APPA supports the Fire Safe Electrical Corridors Act of 2025 because it addresses desired policies outlined in Resolution 25-09, In Support of Increased Federal Efforts to Address the Growing Threats of Wildfires, passed by the APPA membership at the 2025 Legislative Rally in Washington, DC.
Specifically, Resolution 25-09 calls for federal land management agencies to expedite agency approvals for routine vegetation management and hazard tree removal, among other policy recommendations.
