Washington State’s Snohomish County PUD recently announced that its new Sky Valley Substation in Monroe, Wash., is up and running.
The Sky Valley Substation came online in mid-October after years of planning, design and construction, noted Aaron Swaney, spokesman for the PUD.
The new substation will serve growing electrical load in Monroe and surrounding areas in the eastern portion of the PUD’s service territory. “This is a growing area of our county and this project is critical to meeting that increasing demand,” he said.
“We kept most of the construction work in-house, including welding, underground and overhead work and CT testing,” Swaney said.
He noted that the project was slowed a bit due to supply chain issues. The circuit switcher was delayed and paddles needed to complete the assembly of the steel structure were delayed as well.
Over the next several years, the PUD will carry out electrical system improvements and preventative maintenance projects to help ensure high levels of reliability to meet the needs of a growing customer base.
