Electricity Markets
The Long Island Power Authority’s Board of Trustees in December approved a proposal for LIPA to execute a Power Supply Management and Fuel Supply Management Services Agreement with The Energy Authority Inc. for a five-year term.
Bonds and Financing
The Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service recently issued a notice of proposed rulemaking on the credit for Qualified Commercial Clean Vehicles (tax code section 45W).
Reliability
As part of the sustainable energy plan for Colorado Springs Utilities and related to a 2023 request for proposals for 1,700 megawatts of new generation and battery storage, several major projects are underway to provide reliable and cost-effective power for generations to come, the Colorado public power utility said in December.
Generation
Constellation and Calpine Corp. on Jan. 10 announced they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Constellation will acquire Calpine in a cash and stock transaction valued at an equity purchase price of approximately $16.4 billion, composed of 50 million shares of Constellation stock and $4.5 billion in cash plus the assumption of approximately $12.7 billion of Calpine net debt.
Transmission
Investment funds managed by KKR, a global investment firm, and the Public Sector Pension Investment Board, one of Canada’s largest pension investors, announced an agreement to acquire a 19.9% interest in American Electric Power’s Ohio and Indiana & Michigan transmission companies for $2.82 billion.
Energy Storage
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office announced a conditional commitment for a loan guarantee of up to $1.76 billion (including up to $279 million in capitalized interest) to GEM A-CAES, LLC for the Willow Rock Energy Storage Center, an advanced compressed air energy storage system (A-CAES) in Eastern Kern County, California.
