Imperial Irrigation District customers will receive an additional 6.5-cent-per-kilowatt-hour credit for August energy usage, equal to approximately 29% of IID’s current 22.30-cent-per-kilowatt-hour energy rate, the California public power utility said on Aug. 31.
The credit will be automatically reflected on September electric bills.
Savings realized in IID’s fuel and purchased power costs are being passed on to customers through the 6.5-cent-per-kilowatt-hour credit.
“As a community-owned public utility, we believe our customers should directly benefit when we are able to reduce our energy costs,” said IID Board Chairwoman Karin Eugenio.
“When our fuel and purchased power costs come in lower than anticipated, we want to pass those savings on to our customers as quickly as possible. This credit does exactly that while providing meaningful relief during one of the hottest times of the year when energy use and bills are highest.”
Customers do not need to take any action to receive the credit. It will automatically be applied to August energy usage and reflected on September electric bills.
The amount of the credit will vary based on each customer’s August energy usage. Customers enrolled in IID’s Shift & Save Time-of-Use program will also receive the same 6.5-cent-per-kilowatt-hour credit.
"The credit reflects IID’s continuing commitment to responsibly managing energy costs, maintaining reliable public power and passing savings back to customers when lower energy costs make those savings available," IID said.
