Transmission
The Department of Energy on July 23 announced that the DOE’s Loan Programs Office has terminated its conditional commitment for the Grain Belt Express Phase 1 project, a high-voltage direct current transmission line intended to connect wind and solar capacity across Kansas and Missouri.
Reliability
The Winnetka, Illinois, Water & Electric Department will be performing thermography inspections of the Village’s overhead power lines, distribution centers, switchgear and select transformer sites.
Grid Modernization
Siemens and TRC Companies have teamed up to help Arizona public power utility Salt River Project replace its legacy Meter Data Management System with Siemens’ Gridscale X Meter Data Management software.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has approved MISO’s Expedited Resource Addition Study proposal, "a temporary and targeted solution designed to bring urgently needed generation resources online quickly amid unprecedented load growth and increasing reliability challenges," MISO said on July 22.

The American Public Power Association on July 18 filed comments in response to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ proposal to modify and reissue the Nationwide Permits (NWP).

The National Urban League and Center for Energy Workforce Development (CEWD) announced the launch of the Urban Energy After-School Program (UEASP), "a transformative collaboration designed to prepare underserved urban youth with the skills, knowledge, and connections to succeed in high-demand, financially rewarding energy careers," CEWD said on July 18.
Distributed Energy Resources
Oregon’s Northern Wasco PUD will supply power to Google data centers as part of an agreement announced by Avangrid Inc. on July 22.

The PJM Interconnection on July 22 announced the results of its 2026/2027 Base Residual Auction (BRA), which secured 134,311 MW of unforced capacity generation (UCAP) and demand response to meet projected electricity needs for more than 67 million people across 13 states and the District of Columbia.
