In a move intended to help respond to growing electricity demand in the U.S., the National Electrical Manufacturers Association has launched a new standard to assist in meeting this challenge by establishing clear performance expectations for battery energy storage systems to assist data center developers and other end users “in making informed decisions about which BESS products to deploy to improve reliability and resilience and power economic development.”

The U.S. Department of Energy on Jan. 8 announced up to $13 million is available to industry through a new Advanced Nuclear Energy Licensing Cost-Shared Grant Program.

The North American Electric Reliability Corporation on Jan. 8 published a new incident review examining the risks and challenges posed by the increasing integration of voltage-sensitive large loads, such as data centers and cryptocurrency mining facilities, into the Bulk Electric System.
