Several WPPI Energy members have once again been ranked as part of the nation’s leading utilities for their renewable energy programs.

Linda Landman González has been elected as presidentof the Orlando Utilities Commission’s Board of Commissioners. Additionally, Phillip Brown and Bridget Williams, Ed.D., have been selected to serve on the board after confirmation by the City of Orlando.

The PJM Interconnection and stakeholders are making headway on the six components outlined by the Board of Managers in its Jan. 16 plan to reliably meet the unprecedented growth in electricity demand from the rise of data centers and other large energy users in the PJM footprint, the grid operator said on Feb. 25.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission recently submitted a staff report to Congress on the North American Reliability Corporation’s Interregional Transfer Capability Study. FERC declined Congress’s invitation to recommend statutory changes in response to the ITC study.

According to an analysis issued on Feb. 26 by the Electric Power Research Institute, data centers could consume 9%-17% of U.S. electricity generation by 2030 -- more than double current use -- with eight states seeing much higher percentages.

U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright on Feb. 25 announced the Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Dominance Financing has closed a historic $26.5 billion loan package that will support two wholly owned subsidiaries of Southern Company -- Georgia Power and Alabama Power.
