Electricity Markets
The PJM Interconnection on Dec. 17 announced the results of its 2027/2028 Base Residual Auction (BRA), which secured 134,479 MW of unforced capacity generation (UCAP) and demand response (DR) to meet projected electricity needs for more than 67 million people across 13 states and the District of Columbia.
Reliability
The Long Island Power Authority on Dec. 18 announced the adoption of its 2026 budget, which delivers stable electric rates, including a 3.3% decrease in the average residential customer’s electric bill.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Dec. 19 announced a landmark agreement between the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and Ontario Power Generation (OPG).

Electricity Markets
The House of Representatives this week passed H.R. 3616, the Reliable Power Act, authored by Representative Troy Balderson (R-OH), by a bipartisan vote of 225 – 203, and the SPEED Act, by a bipartisan vote of 221-196. The American Public Power Association strongly supports both pieces of legislation.
Grid Modernization
Landis+Gyr and Massachusetts public power utility Peabody Municipal Light Plant have agreed to a contract that will bring the benefits of intelligent grid management to PMLP’s 27,000 electric customers on the outskirts of Boston.
Reliability
Public power utilities and communities in Minnesota are included among the recipients of $5.3 million of grant awards announced by the Minnesota Department of Commerce to improve the resilience of Minnesota’s electric grid against severe weather events, malicious physical attacks, and cyber threats.
