The Grand Haven Board of Light and Power on Sept. 6 said that Robert Shelley will be the Michigan public power utility’s new general manager.
Shelley was unanimously chosen at a Sept. 5 BLP special meeting.
The decision follows a comprehensive national search and hiring process through MyCoff, Fry & Prouse LLC, a leading executive search company specializing in utility professionals.
Shelley, a licensed professional engineer who graduated from Michigan Technological University with a degree in engineering, has over 20 years of industry experience. He has worked for the BLP for nine years, spending the last eight months serving as the utility’s interim general manager.
“It’s an honor to be officially selected for this role, and I look forward to serving the community and continuing the award-winning level of service our customers have come to expect,” said Shelley.
In his previous role as distribution and engineering manager, Shelley oversaw significant improvements in reliability at the BLP, including investments in all substations, rebuilding the 69 kV transmission system and numerous distribution improvements.
