Nine public power utilities have been recognized by the American Public Power Association with Public Power Customer Satisfaction Awards for providing excellent service to their communities.

2023 is the inaugural year for this award.

Winners of Public Power Customer Satisfaction Awards were honored at APPA’s Customer Connections Conference in San Antonio, Texas, on Nov. 13 at gold, silver, and bronze levels based on responses to customer surveys.

The award is the result of receiving high marks from customers in the areas of:

  • Customer service
  • Field personnel
  • Communication
  • Reliability
  • Value
  • Outage response
  • Innovation
  • Overall satisfaction

Bronze Award winners are:

  • Grand Haven Board of Light & Power, Michigan;
  • Kaukauna Utilities, Wisconsin;
  • Kissimmee Utility Authority, Florida;
  • Rolla Municipal Utilities, Missouri; and
  • Sun Prairie Utilities, Wisconsin.

Silver Award winners are:

  • Belmont Municipal Light Department, Massachusetts; and
  • Kerrville Public Utility Board, Texas.

Gold Award winners are Groton Electric Light Department, Massachusetts and Lowell Light and Power, Michigan

To be eligible for an award, a utility must subscribe to APPA’s Public Power Data Source platform and distribute a turnkey survey to their customers.

Awards are based on a utility’s average rating for all criteria in the survey. A utility that scores an average rating of 80 to 89 percent earns a bronze-level award. A utility with a 90 to 94 percent average rating earns a silver-level award. A utility with a 95% average rating or higher earns a gold-level award.
