The Grand River Dam Authority, Oklahoma’s largest public power utility, is working in conjunction with the third largest industrial park in the United States, the MidAmerica Industrial Park, to bring a new data center partner/operator to Northeast Oklahoma, GRDA said on Aug. 26.
In mid-August, GRDA and MAIP issued requests for proposals for development of a 125-acre parcel of land located in the industrial park, near GRDA’s Grand River Energy Center. That parcel is part of a larger 375-acre development area, which would make future expansion possible.
The GRDA GREC is home to both GRDA’s Unit 3 combined cycle gas facility (495 megawatt) and Unit 2 coal fired generator (492MW).
Unit 4, a 420-MW simple cycle gas generator that will eventually replace the coal generation, is also under construction at GREC.
“The close proximity of reliable GRDA electricity and a robust transmission grid, combined with abundant land and existing infrastructure in MAIP, makes the site an ideal location for data center development,” GRDA said.
“For over half a century, GRDA and MidAmerica have partnered together to bring industry and development to this area,” GRDA President/CEO Dan Sullivan. “This new data center project is another example of that partnership, and we are excited about the benefits it will bring by selecting a project that brings the most value to Oklahoma.”
GRDA manages more than 2,500 MW of generation, including three hydroelectric dams, fossil-fuel-derived generation, wind, and solar.
