APPA Applauds Senate Passage of the Inflation Reduction Act; Looks Forward to House Vote Friday

Washington, D.C., August 8, 2022 — American Public Power Association President & CEO Joy Ditto today issued the following statement on Senate passage of the Inflation Reduction Act:

The Inflation Reduction Act supports investment in clean energy technologies—and makes these investments available to all Americans, including the more than 49 million Americans served by more than 2,000 public power utilities operating nationwide.

APPA appreciates the efforts to find the compromises needed to get this bill passed in the Senate and looks forward to a vote in the House on Friday to get it to the President’s desk. Making federal energy tax incentives available to all utilities, including public power and rural electric cooperative utilities that serve nearly 30 percent of all U.S. retail customers, will ensure that American energy stays affordable, reliable, clean, and secure.

APPA also appreciates congressional leadership’s commitment to work toward legislation to speed up much-needed siting and permitting of energy infrastructure.
