The Board of Directors of the Southern California Public Power Authority recently announced the appointment of Daniel Garcia as its new Executive Director.
“Garcia brings 40 years of leadership and utility industry experience to the role, where he will drive SCPPA’s mission of delivering cost-effective and sustainable energy solutions for the benefits of its members,” SCPPA said.
Garcia joins SCPPA from California public power utility Riverside Public Utilities, where he held the position of Interim General Manager. “His extensive experience and strategic vision align perfectly with SCPPA’s goals and will be instrumental in leading the organization through its next phase of growth and innovation,” SCPPA said.
In his new role, Garcia will oversee all aspects of SCPPA’s operations, including project development, financial strategy, and member relations. He will also work closely with SCPPA staff and member agencies to ensure that the Authority continues to meet the evolving needs of the members it serves while maintaining a strong focus on environmental stewardship and economic efficiency, SCPPA said.
"I am honored and excited to lead SCPPA and build on its impressive legacy of public service and innovation in the public power sector," said Garcia. "I look forward to collaborating with our talented team and member agencies to advance our commitment to providing reliable and sustainable energy solutions."
Garcia’s experience and extensive knowledge of the utility industry “and its unique challenges make him the right person to lead SCPPA,” said Tikan Singh, president of the SCPPA Board of Directors. “We are excited to have him at the helm, steering our collective efforts toward a brighter more sustainable future in public power.”
Garcia’s appointment follows a thorough selection process by the SCPPA Board of Directors.
SCPPA is a joint powers authority consisting of eleven-member municipal utilities and one irrigation district.
SCPPA helps to plan, finance, and implement power supply projects and related services that its members could not as effectively achieve individually. SCPPA’s overarching goal is to provide competitively priced, reliable, and sustainable electricity to its members.
