Snohomish County PUD's inaugural Community Energy Run brought hundreds of community members together on Oct. 3 and raised more than $34,000 for the Community Energy Fund, providing critical energy assistance to local families facing financial hardship.

The event welcomed 271 runners and walkers to the PUD's Water Operations Center in Lake Stevens for a community-focused 5K along the Centennial Trail. Participants also had an opportunity to engage with sponsors and learn more about the PUD's Water Utility, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.

Funds raised through the event will support the Community Energy Fund, which helps qualifying customers pay their utility bills during times of financial need, particularly during the colder winter months.

More than 80 PUD employees dedicated their time to the planning and operation of the event – with countless more helping behind the scenes – reflecting the PUD’s commitment to giving back and energizing life in our communities, the Washington State PUD noted.

By running the event in-house, the PUD was able to maximize the impact and ensure that nearly every dollar raised directly supports local families through the Community Energy Fund.

"This event shows what is possible when our employees and community come together for a common purpose," said Lisa Hunnewell, PUD Chief Communications Officer. "The money raised through the Community Energy Run will help local families who may be struggling to keep the lights on or stay warm this winter. We are incredibly proud of everyone who helped make this event a success."

Administered by partner St. Vincent de Paul, the Community Energy Fund is supported by customer donations, employee contributions, and fundraising efforts throughout the year.
