Snohomish County PUD has selected its first round of Electric Pathways for Transportation grants, providing more than $2.3 million for transportation electrification projects across the county.
The program, which is funded through the sale of clean fuels credits the PUD receives from the Department of Ecology for participating in the Washington Clean Fuels Program, supports electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, and other transportation electrification projects.
Projects range from the installation of level 2 and 3 charging infrastructure, two of which will be in areas with limited or no charging stations, to the replacement of gas or diesel vehicles with the purchase of electric vehicles.
"Our customers are finding innovative ways to serve their communities, and the Electric Pathways Program helps turn those ideas into reality," said John Haarlow, CEO and General Manager of Snohomish County PUD. "Supporting our communities in a meaningful way is something we care deeply about at the PUD."
The first funding cycle drew 20 applications from cities, nonprofits, school districts, and businesses. Following a competitive review, 12 projects were selected for funding based on community benefits, feasibility, and long-term sustainability. Awards range from $54,820 to $350,000.
"We are excited to see strong interest in this inaugural funding round," said Lisa DiMartino, Electric Pathways Program Manager. "These projects represent meaningful investments in cleaner transportation infrastructure that will help expand access to electric transportation, reduce emissions and support economic development throughout our communities."
Grant recipients include local governments, Tribes, community organizations and businesses, including the Arlington Airport, Tulalip Tribes, City of Bothell, Silver Lake Water & Sewer District, Evergreen Bowling, Stillaguamish Tribe and Downtown Everett Association. Receipt of award funds is contingent on the agreement execution and meeting all contract requirements.
The PUD anticipates a second Electric Pathways for Transportation grant offering in December.
