Massachusetts public power utility Reading Municipal Light Department recently announced the hiring of Michael O’Neill as its new Director of Operations.

With a career spanning over two decades in the electric utility industry, O’Neill brings a wealth of experience, having held key roles at National Grid and Eversource, RMLD noted.

O’Neill occupied various leadership roles including Electric Overhead Manager, Electric Underground Manager, and Electric Operations OH Supervisor at National Grid.

In these positions, he managed the maintenance and construction of Overhead/Underground distribution systems with a focus on safety and efficiency.

As Electric Operations OH Supervisor, he directed the maintenance and construction of distribution and transmission systems, ensuring safety, meeting deadlines and budgets, and responding to emergencies.

Prior to his role at National Grid, O’Neill was the Electric Construction Supervisor for Station/Substation & Electric Operations Construction at Eversource.

In this position, he was responsible for the continuous maintenance and construction of the underground transmission systems, overseeing projects such as GIS equipment installations, repairs, and upgrades, as well as new station construction and major pipeline installations.

As Director of Operations, O’Neill “will play a pivotal role in steering RMLD's operating tactics, focusing on safety, project management, and execution excellence,” the utility said.
