Sports Destination Management, the publication with the largest circulation of sports event planners and tournament directors in the sports tourism market, recently announced the 2025 Champions of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism.

Among the winners was the 2025 Public Power Lineworkers Rodeo, produced in cooperation with Placer Valley Tourism, the City of Roseville Electric Utility, and @the Grounds in Roseville, California.

This year’s winners are responsible for contributing a boost of more than $1.4 billion to the national economy over the past year.

“The 2025 Public Power Lineworkers Rodeo electrified Roseville, drawing 579 competitors from 50 utilities and 9,400 fans for an estimated $5.7 million in total economic impact, including $3.66 million in direct spending and 1,260 hotel room nights,” a news release from Placer Valley Tourism noted. “The event transformed @the Grounds into a hub of high-voltage competition, featuring technical challenges, a bustling vendor expo, and family-friendly entertainment.”

Thanks to the collaboration between Placer Valley Tourism and the City of Roseville Electric Utility, the event “not only powered impressive economic returns but also showcased Roseville as a dynamic host city for unique and large-scale sporting events,” the news release said.

“This award is a powerful reminder of how deeply aligned Public Power is with community values,” said Dan Beans, CEO and Electric Utility Director at the City of Roseville. “Hosting the 2025 National Lineworkers Rodeo gave us a special opportunity to showcase the incredible impact of electricity and the people behind it. Lineworkers are the heartbeat of our mission—there’s no role more fundamental. We were honored to host this event and celebrate the very individuals who embody what we do, why we do it, and how we serve our communities.”

Ten journeyman teams and 11 individual apprentices won awards at the American Public Power Association’s twenty-third annual Public Power Lineworkers Rodeo, held March 28-29, in Roseville, California.
